Send Conscience Calling Cards to the other six officials who voted to ban public comment on the deer issue:

The trustees and mayor of Cayuga Heights, New York, recently voted unanimously to forbid citizens from speaking about a controversial deer-killing proposal at their meetings, during the very timeframe in which they are expected to vote on it. The proposal was only released in July, less than a month before they banned public comment. Their plan, if implemented, will either violate or kill every single deer in Cayuga Heights into the foreseeable future. Read Shot for a Tulip for a quick overview of what they are proposing and why it is wrong.

As our voices at meetings have been silenced, we are asking those who care about animals, gun violence, and freedom of speech issues to help us send a message to the trustees of Cayuga Heights, that attempts to shut down dialogue locally are only going to put a spotlight on their actions nationally.

The mayor and the trustees have steadfastly ignored safe, cost-effective, and non-violent alternatives to their killing program, and now they have banned people from even questioning them at meetings. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that at the first meeting at which the public had a chance to comment on their plan, people spoke more than 2 to 1 against it.
